Drywall repair that disappears under paint

You want walls that look smooth once the paint goes on, not a patch you can spot from across the room. That is what good drywall repair should give you. A hole from a curtain rod, a stress crack over a doorway, or a lumpy patch a past crew left behind can all show through fresh paint if they are not fixed the right way. We repair drywall across Lake, Sumter and Marion counties, match the texture, sand it flat, then prime it so the fix disappears. Then, if you want, we roll on a warranty-backed repaint over the top. You get one crew, one standard, and one painter who calls back a year later to make sure it still looks right.

Most of the drywall work we do is repair and prep before a repaint, so the wall reads as one clean surface once it is painted. We handle the everyday damage that shows up in a lived-in Central Florida home and the bigger fixes too. If you are not sure what your wall needs, that is fine. We will look at it during your free estimate and tell you straight.

What does a bad patch really cost you?

A drywall patch is the part of the job nobody sees until the light hits it. Skip the sanding or the texture match and you get a raised spot, a ring, or a shiny area that jumps out the moment the sun comes through the window. Then you are looking at it every day. Here is the honest part: paint does not hide a bad patch. It highlights it. A fresh coat over a lumpy repair just makes the lump easier to see. So if you pay for a repaint and the prep was rushed, you paid for a problem you now have to live with. The fix later costs more than doing it right the first time, because the wall has to be opened back up, re-mudded, re-sanded and re-painted. Doing the drywall right before the paint is the cheapest way to a wall that actually looks finished.

How does our drywall finishing process work?

The finish is where drywall repair is won or lost. Anybody can throw mud in a hole. Making it disappear under paint takes patience and the right number of coats. Our crews, most of them together 6-plus years, follow the six steps below on every repair.

The last step, the walk-through, is the part we care about most. If a patch is not right, we fix it before you pay. You do not pay until you are satisfied.

How it works

Six steps to a patch you cannot find

You always know what happens next and who is in your home.

  1. 1. Prep and protect

We prep the area, cover your floors and furniture, and cut back any loose or damaged board.

  2. 2. Coats of compound

We apply joint compound in coats, letting each coat dry before the next, so the patch does not crack or shrink later.

  3. 3. Sand and feather

We sand smooth and feather the edges out wide, so there is no hard line where the patch meets the wall.

  4. 4. Match texture

We match your existing texture, whether it is knockdown, orange peel or a smooth wall.

  5. 5. Prime the repair

We prime the repair so it takes paint the same as the rest of the wall.

  6. 6. Walk it together

Before you pay, you and the foreman walk the job together to check every patch.

Frequently asked questions

We can repair drywall after a leak has been fixed and the area is dry.. If the board is soft or moldy, it needs to come out and be replaced before painting. We will tell you straight what your wall needs during the free estimate.

Paint-Ready Results

Will the wall be ready for paint?

Yes. The whole point of our drywall work is a wall that takes paint evenly and reads as one surface. When we do the repair and the repaint together, you get a single crew standing behind the whole job. That matters, because our interior and exterior painting carries a 7-year peel-and-chip warranty, and prep like this is a big reason the finish lasts. We have painted an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 homes in The Villages alone, so patching and texture matching is daily work for us, not a favor squeezed between paint jobs. Owner Weston McWilliams has been in the trade since 2012, and we come back a year later to check the work. If a hairline shows up, we take care of it. That is the difference between a patch that holds and a patch that comes back to haunt you.

How are we different from a typical crew?

Plenty of crews can fill a hole. Fewer take the extra coats and the sanding time to make it vanish under paint. Here is how our drywall prep compares to a rushed, cut-corner job.

Compound coats: Multiple coats, each dried, versus one quick pass.
Sanding and feathering: Sanded smooth, edges feathered wide, versus skipped or spot-sanded.
Texture match: Matched to your wall, versus left flat or mismatched.
Priming the patch: Primed before paint, versus painted straight over raw mud.
Final check: Foreman-and-customer walk-through, versus you find it later.
Payment: No payment until satisfied, versus paid before you inspect.

We repair drywall across Central Florida in Lake, Sumter and Marion counties. That includes Mount Dora, Eustis, Tavares, Leesburg, Sorrento, Fruitland Park, Lady Lake, Ocala, Belleview, Wildwood and The Villages, plus communities like On Top of the World, Legacy, Stonecrest and Del Webb. Texture and timing

How long does a drywall repair take?

Joint compound needs each coat to dry before the next goes on, so a repair usually takes a day or two depending on the size and the humidity. Central Florida humidity can slow drying, so we do not rush it. Painting over compound that is not fully dry is how cracks and rings show up later.

Re-doing a lumpy or unsanded patch from a past crew is common work for us. We sand it back, re-mud in coats, feather the edges, match the texture and prime it so it disappears under fresh paint.

Can you match textured walls like knockdown or orange peel?

Yes. Texture matching is a normal part of our drywall repair. We match knockdown, orange peel and smooth finishes so the patch blends into the surrounding wall. Once it is primed and painted, you should not be able to find the repair.

Do you paint after the drywall repair?

Yes, and most customers want us to. When we do the repair and the repaint together, one crew stands behind the whole wall. Our interior and exterior painting carries a 7-year peel-and-chip warranty (see warranty details), and good drywall prep is a big reason the finish lasts.

Can you fix a bad patch another painter left behind?

Yes. Re-doing a lumpy or unsanded patch from a past crew is common work for us. We sand it back, re-mud in coats, feather the edges, match the texture and prime it so it disappears under fresh paint.

How much does drywall repair cost in Central Florida?

Cost depends on how many spots, how big they are, and whether texture matching is needed. That is why we give a free written estimate before any work starts, so you see the price up front with no surprises. Call (352) 626-8007 to set it up.

How long does drywall repair take to dry before painting?

Joint compound needs each coat to dry before the next goes on, so a repair usually takes a day or two depending on the size and the humidity. Central Florida humidity can slow drying, so we do not rush it. Painting over compound that is not fully dry is how cracks and rings show up later.

Do I have to pay before the work is checked?

No. You do not pay until you are satisfied. Before payment, you and the foreman walk the job together to check every patch. If something is not right, we fix it first.

Do you cover my floors and furniture during the repair?

Yes. Sanding drywall makes dust, so we cover your floors and furniture and clean up after. You should not be finding drywall dust on your countertops after we leave.
